Japan’s Ministry of Health suspends “as a precautionary measure” the use of 1,630,000 doses of Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccine after finding “anoma lous substances” in three batches received. The pharmaceutical company points out that the problem may have arisen in its production centre in Spain.
The doses withdrawn correspond to the batch numbers 3004667, 3004734 and 3004956. They report that Moderna batches affected by impurities have not been distributed in any other country.”
As announced by the Ministry, this decision has been taken after finding “anomalous substances” in one of the batches received of the Moderna covid vaccine. Likewise, a spokesman for the ministry confirms that the three batches of COVID-19 vaccines that have been withdrawn had been produced in a production centre in Spain.
In addition, more than one and a half million doses that were intended for subway workers will be stopped.
For its part, the Ministry of Health of Spain informs that the only batches of Moderna vaccine against the corona virus manufactured in our country affected by impurities are the three that have been paralyzed in Japan and have not been distributed in any other country.
They explain that, currently, both the Japanese and Spanish authorities are assessing the risk of the presence of these particles and, based on these analyses, the necessary measures will be taken.
The pharmaceutical company Rovi, responsible for the production of a large part of Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccines in the international market, investigates the causes of these quality problems to know the origin of the problem, solve it and prevent it from recurring under the supervision of the Spanish Agency for Medicines and Health Products.
