One of the most iconic places on the Costa del Sol, Civitas Puerto Banús, will host one of the social and sporting events of the year. The E1 Series, known as the electric Formula 1 of the sea. A new sport approved by the International Powerboating Union, which will connect the Costa del Sol with other locations such as Monaco, Venice, Jeddah (where the inaugural Series took place with great success), Hong Kong, or Geneva.
On June 1st and 2nd, ten teams sponsored by names as prominent as Rafael Nadal, Mark Anthony, Steve Aoki, Didier Drogba, or Steve Aoki will come together. A grandstand for about 3,000 spectators has been prepared, and it is estimated that around 20,000 people will come specifically for the event over the weekend. There will be a VIP area, a Village, and a commercial area. All in the purest Formula One style. It will be a good image and tourist impact for the Costa del Sol.
Each team will be formed by a man and a woman, with identical boats and professional pilots. The boat model is the RaceBird, which can reach speeds of up to 90 km/h, with its 7.5 meters in length. It has a power of 150 kW and a 35 kWh battery. The skill of the pilots will be more important than pure speed.
The E1 Cívitas Puerto Banús Grand Prix is presented as the most promising sustainable event of 2024, being CO2 emissions-free and promoting the generation of electrical energy, hydrogen charging, biodegradable packaging, plastic-free bottles, recyclable trophies, food saving policy, and sustainable logistics.
In addition to the races, other events have been scheduled, including a concert by Mark Anthony on Friday, May 31st, in the San Pedro Alcántara Fair area. The competition will have qualifying rounds for day 1 and will culminate on day 2 with the semifinals and final. Four boats will compete for the title in the final race in the waters of Marbella.
The event comes to Puerto Banús thanks to the support of the Andalusian Regional Government, Marbella City Council, Malaga Provincial Government, and the Association of Municipalities of the Western Costa del Sol.
